One thing I noticed is that the particles from being shot (before the entity is destroyed) are very short lived. They seem to disappear before hitting the ground, but the particles after destruction are long lived. I would add a longer lifespan to the damage particles so that damaged entities have ...

I love these new destruction effects.
One problem with destruction of entities in Factorio is that once robots are unlocked, destroyed entities are instantly replaced by ghosts so that the robots will rebuild them.
This interferes with the visual effect at the moment of destruction.

Please, please, please start over on the tree animation. It doesn’t look natural at all and comes off as a strange animated impressionist painting. And since weird impressionist painting isn’t factorio’s art style it doesn’t fit.

The particles are already 64 bytes so there's no point in packing them into smaller structures unless they can be reduced to 32 bytes which isn't likely to happen without removing functionality that the game currently uses.
Well what oktokolo is suggesting would take you down to 64 bits so 8 ...
