That's working as intended. You have to wait for them to catch up. This case looks like something else though, it seems the bots target the wrong position when trying to get back to the player, even when he is no longer moving (as seen in the first gif). Inserters cannot grab items moving away from them
Inserters attempting to grab an item from a fast or express belt will miss the item if the inserter is positioned behind an exit tunnel.
If there are multiple items of the same type on the same belt segment, they will grab some of the items, but miss the first one or two.
