7. Construction density when running an internal belt loop is ~15 tiles of space per lab - roughly the same as with presented chained lab complexes. One of the 0.15 fixes had a fix for the mini tutorials disabling the control.lua, control.lua is the thing that shows the launch counter on the normal game. So that could explain the missing counter?

They won't expand, ie won't make new spawners, but they will still send biters to attack you They won't make new bases at new spots, but do they enlarge their current bases? In summary, I think removing alien artifacts is against the spirit of the game, removes incentives for fighting and exploring, removes incentives to research and make most military items, and will make the gameplay experience a much drier affair.
