Re: Are the developers geniuses?
Your fear of inadequacy is an addressable problem. You are as smart as you are and that is not up to you. Don't be afraid of who you are. Having good teachers or going to great colleges will not change that inherent ability (pretty much guaranteed to work the other way around actually). What is up t...

Re: Is Storage useless?
Storage is useful for: - keeping your factory going when you have mined out a resource. - Providing a buffer for transient resources (like intermittent train deliveries) - Deferring what to make with resources until you have a need (ex. you've got 1,000 batteries but no copper for circuits now) - Ke...

With exoskeletons and shields - drop a couple distractors near the swarm to pull them away. While running in, continue to lay down distractors to keep the worms busy. Shotgun the worms first and then the spawners while circling around. Save ammo by staying ahead of the beasties and leading them back...

Re: Belt Corner Speed or .12 got it wrong
Consider your conveyor picture in your first post except there are 2 lines of boxes being conveyed and all of the boxes have a very small space between items (fully compressed). Under .11 mechanics, those 2-dimensional boxes arrive at the corner but the inside line of boxes smash up against each oth...

Chapter 8 – Homeward Bound, TBD Komás observed the flat terrain floating past him through the front windshield. Only scattered trees, the electric transmission lines and the regularly spaced bunkers marked the passage of distance as the locomotive and 2 freight cars, filled with urgently needed coa...

Re: Curious how I'm doing
My biggest issue going into blue research is I know I have to deal with the waste from the other 2 materials created and not sure what to plan for that. Are you referring to heavy oil and light oil? I suggest keeping it easy for your first time through blue science. Getting blue science automated i...

Re: Oil Refining
Kamata - For Bobs Mod I typically separate my factory into plate processing, chemical processing, electronics department, research department, power supply and then the factory proper. For the factory proper I've done pretty well with 6 sets of 4 belts plus 2 sets of 4 pipes. At some point in the la...

Try this modular layout with free aisles -
For a group of 4 (as shown) - 75 panels to 63 accumulators - 25 to 21

Re: Bot Cell Diffusion build - could use some help!
I like the idea of using a latch to set the direction of flow. - Instead of setting each material's margin to 1,000 items, use a constant combinator so that each item's margin can be set. Ex. speed module at 50 items, iron plate at 2,000 items. - This allows items to be transferred up to A = B and a...

Re: Bot Cell Diffusion build - could use some help!
Can't do decimals - whoops! That's what I get for doing it on paper. I like your solution. You can also try a Constant Combinator chest - connect the CC to the item count and set the items in the CC to the margin amount you want for each item (100 iron pl, 100 cu pl, 50 wood, etc...) - then multiply...

Re: Bot Cell Diffusion build - could use some help!
This should work - transferchests.jpg I'd set your requester chests to receive 10 or 50 items automatically and then leave them out of the wired networks. Multiply 1 side of "Each" item x-1.1 and add it to the other side. Then connect the outgoing smart inserters for the other side to that...

Re: Balancing Steel Barrels in Oil Barreling stations
OK, this should work - Just like Nobodx's post, this uses the first item off the wagon to start a timer. It unloads all barrels from the wagon but only counts the full ones and then replaces the full barrels with empty ones plus a marginal amount (1 stack should do). OIL STATION.jpg Still need somet...

Re: A simple sensor for keeping belts moving
Your method however will shove half of you plate and ore into storage during peak demand only to take it back out again which is a little wasteful of energy Yes, it does add to the energy bill as well as the flurry of robots that have to be active. To prevent this, I'm thinking that an inline senso...

Re: A simple sensor for keeping belts moving
To keep the furnaces running I have to store excess iron plateBut during peak load I want to be releasing iron plate How about a mass storage solution? All of the ore comes off of the train and goes straight to the furnaces. The output of the furnaces, plate, has a higher stacking value so this is ...
