Re: Some Dry Stuff

Well, I got greedy for more oil and my outpost was overrun when it polluted an alien base. Still, I learned a bit about the pollution mechanics and energy consumption - so no worries. Been busy lately and when I start playing Factorio I feel guilty. This is a hangover from 'dealing with' depression ...

Re: Friday Facts #321 - Countdown

As you folks know - you do an amazing job. The thing is, there is danger of you doing your job too well, and I believe you might have recognised this as you've finally released a release date. Perfectionism, while useful in some circumstances, can be deadly in business. But cheap shoddy goods - we'v...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

OK. 38 MW usage and pollution is holding - even receding a little. Clean Green 03.jpg Changes made. Converted coal smelting to electric. Upgraded all assemblers from grey to blue (from 4/m pollution per machine down to 3/m). Got mining efficiency two so 20% less mining required. I definitely need mo...

Clean Green

Picked up the game after a bit of a break. Trying to see if I can get off the planet without engaging the enemy OR turtling forever. My settings here: Alien Expansion = Off; Starting Area = Max. The initial idea was to go solar power ASAP without dawdling too much and see how that alters things. I d...

That was really interesting. A lot of skills and individual thinkers/problem solvers - helps explain the attention to detail we get to enjoy. Bit of a sausage fest - do ladies apply for your jobs? Great to see Kovarex looking so trim and well. Some team members might benefit from some organise...

Re: Friday Facts #293 - New remnants 2 & 1.0 Marketing plan

Another thing to consider with marketing is the widely disparate age groups you cater for. From kids to old(er) types like myself. I noted Nephrums is sporting some grey himself - even our experts 'have experience'... ;) How about a free prostrate check with every game sold... Actually, I'm just thi...

Re: Friday Facts #293 - New remnants 2 & 1.0 Marketing plan

Wrote a lot of advertorials back in the day when I edited a paper. I managed to halve the ad space doing this (and bringing in sponsors who aligned with the values of the publication). The public were appreciative. Anytime you can stop bludgeoning folk with blunt advertising tactics you will receive...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

Yeah. Manually refueling inserters doesn't work for me either. Will bots do it? The locals are no longer the dominant species on the map. 0.17 6.jpg Note in my wall arrangement I have a line of crenelations - there are gaps behind the short wall sections in the front of these, biters can get in but ...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

So I was 'just going to' add high tech science...

More mining, more power, more oil stuff, more lasers, more smelting, more landfill, rail, move wall a bit to accommodate ores...

Still haven't built the high tech stuff. But I'm nearly prepared

Re: Some Dry Stuff

That was annoying not remembering why I've written off burner inserters... It's to do with belt upgrades. Once you go red - if the belt is not full the inserters can't pick up off it. So I don't use burner inserters because I wind up in blackout when I have them. It's been a while since I fell for t...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

Yes, you'd think that'd work. But experience tells me otherwise. Some people place electric and burner inserters. Perhaps I'm placing them backwards? :D I can't tell in game what's naff about them except taking about 7 times the power (in coal form) to run. Burner inserters have proven to be a letdo...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

I don't know if it was the intention, but the biters absorbing pollution is a negative feedback on the system. As the pollution is absorbed the spread is slowed down so only the aliens ringing the base are attacking - as the pollution is being significantly slowed by their bases. Observe... 0.17 4.j...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

Laser turrets now, but power can be problematic. When the lasers fire up the inserters placing coal in the power (right when you need it most) slow right down. If a prolonged assault (or more likely, a series of assaults one after the other) occurs - it can shut the power down. Death follows. The so...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

Death world is a slog. Starting with starting equipment is a double edged sword. The faster you build the faster and harder you get attacked. Slowly you go, getting the turrets, ammo, walls, resources. Using infinite ores mod is a godsend - no panic about running out or having to expand too fast. Fi...

Re: Some Dry Stuff

Not a lot of time for playing lately, but am having a go in 0.17. My preliminary factory is taking forever. Death match settings. The enemy are persistent, and many. They are also stupid. 0.17 1.jpg It takes this spitter five spits to destroy one box in the rocks health bar. It took this idiot betwe...

Re: Economies of scale are breaking my brain

Hi I built a bunch of 'permanent' factories using the infinite ores mod. The real beauty of this mod is you can install it mid-game. What this means is that I can clear out my starting area and surrounds of patches of ore in the way, and then I install the mod for making permanent outposts to feed t...

Re: Friday Facts #288 - New remnants, More bugs

Sigh, the proportion of our player base which uses these languages (less than 0.1%) less than 0.1% of about 2M = about 1‰ of 2 000 000 = about 2 000 In any case, it's indeed about the ratio than the total number... Everyone is correct - except the person who should be doing their homework not playi...

1% of 1M = 10K players.

Not a figure for an accountant, 10 000 people who like your game.

Lost control of keyboard

Hi I can't give you a bug report I had to manually shut off the computer as I lost all control of the keyboard and mouse while playing the latest experimental version about 5 minutes prior to this post. I wasn't doing anything just running along then all of a sudden stopped in the midst of an ore pa...

Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

I lost zero walls in the new scenario as I didn't bother building any. I got a belt of ammo/coal surrounding the base, hitched up a bunch of turrets to that and waited it out. Job done. I did like that in the end some of the turrets were running out despite 16 burner drills dedicated to iron/bullet ...
