Re: Silly thoughts about Science Packs

Maybe all of your race's technologies are stored in a central repository but they are encrypted to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. Since you crash landed your reader was destroyed so you now have to decrypt the storage to retrieve the blueprints needed to implement those technologies. Th...

Re: Basic resource management

I'm wondering now how to best "split things up" so that I can manufacture different types of intermediate product. Obviously I need gears in lots of different things. Should I set up a space that just makes gears and puts those onto a belt and then send that belt to my other parts to make...

Re: Win an alienware!

Well I for one am NOT clicking a link supposedly about a competition run by Jagex but the link is woobox.com? Who knows that is waiting on the other end of that link.... Did a search on Jagex and found http://www.jagex.com/ but no mention of a competition. Most of these competitions (if the link is ...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?

I believe it was from http://www.copyright.org.au/find-an-answer/browse-by-what-you-do/software-developers/ in the "Games and Copyright" info sheet. I'm not a lawyer either but as far I can tell computer games are different than music etc. It is not format shifting which is allowed but wit...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?

Do you really think you could go to jail or be charged with stealing something you legally own? There is no country on earth with laws against this. Buying a product means not only do you own that copy of it, but if you lose that copy (and kept the receipt) any single copy of that work in your poss...

Re: What use are storage chests?

I had some trouble with overproduction because i deconstructed some parts of my factory completely. As you know, deconstruction needs storage boxes (your bots will only deliver it there; they won't put it back into the provider chests). All that stuff which went into storage was never seen again as...

Re: What use are storage chests?

Does the logistic network also count requester chests? Need to try that. If so, then the circuit network would be the better solution. I got a lot of requester chests with stuff on the side for particular tasks. I don't want to mix that with my main storage. EDIT: Okay, the content of requester che...

Re: Game runs slow

However the slow FPS option makes the game run a lot faster. The FPS seems capped at 30 with this option enabled... not sure why it runs smoother than 40-50 fps, but it seems to do the trick. I started playing Factorio on my laptop while away for work and it was running really slow. Setting "l...

What use are storage chests?

This probably seems like a silly question but why use storage chests and active provider chests? I have my logistics network setup with passive provider chests and requester chests and everything seems to be working quite well. I fail to see the benefits of storage chests and active provider chests....

Oooooh I see. Click the X and then select to which slot to prevent from being filled.
Now THAT should be explained somewhere properly. I have been making short belts to provide limits to production lines.

Re: Scenario packs worthwhile?

I wasn't asking HOW to get them, but looking for opinions on if they were worth the extra 10 euros or not from people who already have them.

Also asking what format they were, just premade maps or scripted or what?

Scenario packs worthwhile?

Pretty subjective topic I know but now that I have been playing Factorio for a few days I am now considering if it is worth another 10 euros to upgrade to get the scenario packs at the next tier. Are these just pre-built save games with an arbitary end goal or are they fully scripted like the demo/t...

Thanks for the reply. So it WILL work just very slowly after the reserves are used up - that's good to know.

I don't mind slow as long as I don't get overrun by biters :D

Do you NEED oil to progress?

New player on my first map here. I have tech 1 and 2 all automated now and things seem to be going well (except for a biter attack that wiped half my base :D ). I'm starting to find recipes that need plastic now which IIRC requires petroleum to produce. Now I can only find 2 small spots of oil so fa...
