Re: Friday Facts #438 - Space Age wrap up
Thank you everyone from Wube for making such an awesome game! I certainly don't see the announcements of FFF ending as "the end". The game just came out and it vanilla alone will be worthy of years of play to come. But what really makes Factorio is that all of the mods that are going to come out ...

Here it is! (beep boop)

Really like the diminishing returns approach, but I wonder if there could be some further interest added by having a proximity bonus to beacons so that a beacon directly next to a building has a greater effect than one further ...

Re: Friday Facts #409 - Diminishing beacons
For the people who want the "best" solution to change, nothing can really fix that. Because the game is in a grid layout and it's a calculated value, there will ALWAYS be one best answer. So whatever that answer is, that's what the optimizers will do when they solve the equation. If you don't like ...

Async saving is one of those oddball things that seems like it's a workaround to a bigger problem. If saves were barely noticeable then why even bother to put the effort in for a feature that 1% of 1% of the userbase uses? Why not work towards a solution that helps all users?
I'd guess that some ...

Adding a thanks for the changes and I'm glad they are coming!
I absolutely like the stacking and faster belts. Back in the .12 days you could get away with a single belt for something like iron plates, and split it multiple times to feed different assemblers. Then all of the resources counts ...

Just tossing in the 2 cents as well that the weight system adds a bunch of overhead for little gain. So now every entity has an additional property that players need to learn about, but it only matters in one place.

Re: Friday Facts #381 - Space Platforms
Interesting. I feel like it combines a few existing ideas like seablock, factorissmo, while also bringing back some pre .15.x gameplay. I definitely enjoy each of those, so combined this certainly could be fun. One of the nice things about Factorio before the item count went crazy was that you could ...

Re: Friday Facts #377 - New new rails
Awesome changes.
There is one thing I don't quite understand yet, and would love some clarification: Why must rails be constrained to grid at all?
I'm asking because I'm curious what bad things would result if rail control points could be placed anywhere. By default they could be snapped to ...

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
On the other hand speed runners might want to play the luck lottery (Think SMB3 hand grabs) at small scale because it might actually be worth it to invest a bit of resources to get that luck to make the speedrun faster. (But in doing so takes time and resources to set up, meaning there will be ...

I like it.
The best part about it is that it breaks the "solved" equation where everyone just copies everyone else's blueprints and spam down the same stuff a hundred times. Thing is eventually everyone will get there, but this will certainly add a lot more strategy to the mid game as to how to ...

Great news! I look forward to giving this a go.
I'll add my one side comment about my wish for the expansion.

Re: Friday Facts #365 - Future plans
After thinking about the future of Factorio, here are a few random thoughts. One of the bigger picture things I'd like to suggest is now is a great time to be planting the seed for future work. There is no immediate need to get work done and you can likely take a bit longer than you plan right now ...

Re: Friday Facts #365 - Future plans
I think you guys came to the right conclusion. It seems like the average Factorio player is a bit older and has experienced all of the possible combinations of games in the past. Expansion is 100% the right answer to get behind if you want to continue making the same game but add new functionality ...

Re: Friday Facts #351 - Beacon re-redesign & Simplified fluid mixing
I like the new beacon, it's definitely a lot better than the old. It does feel a bit busy with all of the little copper wires on it, but overall it's much better. I do like that it's sunk into the ground as when you look at the comparison of the original vs the new you can really tell how ...

Re: What are some good ways to make the first ~4 hours of a Factorio game fun?
If you don't enjoy the first phase, then my best suggestion would be to use the map editor. What you can do is throw down a couple of steam engines, an offshore pump, a couple labs, and a couple electric miners. You should be able to belt coal from a miner back to the boiler, so you have a bare ...

Re: Friday Facts #347 - New hope demo levels
Great news! I've never played the new hope campaign, so it will be fun to fiddle around with these when they are released. I think you made a great decision just cherry picking the two best levels and using them. It adds much more value to the game than mass importing a bunch of content that wasn't ...

So I'm surprised no one bumped this. We just downloaded the 18.18 version and noticed the new Stats GUI. I'm glad you guys decided to tweak it slightly and add totals for the power stats. What crazy is just how intuitive it is now. I looked at the satisfaction graph, and you could see the ...

Re: Friday Facts #342 - The new old tutorial
The NPE campaign just looked so good but I never even got a chance to try it, because I didn't even know it was being removed before it was too late.
But it's not too late. There isn't a version of the game right now you can get that doesn't have it in there. The 17 branch is going to have it ...
