Use inactive artillery wagons for this purpose, they can fit 99 shells ;)
Thanks! I thought as well to create a separate network, the classical one interrupts were meant for to deliver just shells or any bulk cargo.
But I ended up leaving as is, because problem with shells was only temporary ...

I already did and tested it. It works really well.
I have set all priorities except science to be linear function of available amount. At target priority = 100. 3 x above target priority = 0. At zero priority = 300.
And for science I have set priority to be = 100 if amount is below target ...

If anything interesting popped-up, I drove a disposable tank at the problem firing shells and Uranium Ammo: no more problem.
It's definitely a way to have fun :)

I have made a supply network with one train, one supply hub and multiple stations.

The best way I found is very lean and resilient actually.
You need:
1) a spidertron loaded with rockets and equipped with exoskeletons for speed, plus roboport.
