Maybe it's because it's taking too long to build by hand?
If you search the mod portal for "start" you can find a lot of mods that promise a faster start, often by providing you with armor, construction bots, etc. to get you going quickly. A few examples:

so whenever I play factorio I get bored and very discouraged so I can never get past chemical science unless i'm playing with friends it won't help to play with a faster start mod since I get bored of building the base from scratch so does anyone have a world (space age) that has built a rocket ...

anyone else find demolishers boring to fight?
so the demolishers are very big and string but the only thing you need to beat them is 20 gun turrets with ammo it would be a lot more fun if it was like a boss fight where you could beat it with a tank or something. the issue stems from the fact that demolishers are basically immune to everything ...

now I like this but the problem I have with biters is that they get very annoying and whenever one random medium biter starts eating something I have to walk my butt there to unload 3 bullets into that thing so this would get very annoying very quickly. simple a flying enemy kinda like a giant wasp that airdrops acid from its abdomin at a very short range my main idea for it is it can fly over walls and can't be burnt to death by flame turrets that it balances out the flame turrets that are way too strong

if you automate quality machines in the early game, you don't have much of that quality machine. so I propose that when a quality machine is made bots will automatically be sent to upgrade a lower Quilty machine.
