It happened again, on yet another asset, see attached log, comparing the files right after the crash and while I still couldn't launch the game gave a difference:

with diff
/run/current-system/sw/bin/diff ./factorio-space-age_linux_2.0.16_freshly_extracted//data/space-age/graphics/terrain/vulcanus ...

If re-extracting the files fixes the issue that says to me your hard drive is failing and the file on disk is getting corrupt. Can you binary-compare the files with the freshly extracted file and see if it reports a difference?


They're the same, but I'm also not able to reproduce anymore ...

Does this happen with a freshly downloaded zip version off the website?


It happened with 2 different downloaded zips:
factorio-space-age_linux_2.0.14.tar.xz
factorio-space-age_linux_2.0.10.tar.xz

I still have them.

Re-extracting the same archive into a new folder and coping my mods/saves ...

After a few play sessions, 14 this time, I cannot start the game anymore because of an "IDAT: incorrect data check" error.

I'm running space age standalone on linux (NixOS 24.05)
