Honestly I welcome this change. Yes it's not realistic /in/ the pipes but the old system also was not realistic in how the pipes were meant to be used. Pipes are meant to bring fluids from A to B and split between directions because fluid dynamics. The old fluid system did this poorly, very poorly....
