I agree with OP.

It makes me feel overwhelmed with options which demotivates me and it doesn't feel like a streamlined progression.

I'll throw in my 2c as someone who dabbled occasionally with the game from initial (non-steam) release up until version 15, and restarted playing with the latest patch, as I believe my mindset is closer to a brand new player than people who have played for hundreds of hours.

Just as a quick update we are actively working on fixing all the belt issues including sideloading and experimenting with compression.
Due to the complexity of belts, because of all the optimizations, this is not easy, so bear with us.
