You can keep mining resources while viewing the overview map.

Steps to repeat:
* Left click on any resource to mine
* Press the overview map button
* Release the left mouse button
* You can navigate around in the overview while your avatar keeps mining in the background.

Didn't get this with the 0.10.2 or previous versions. Upgrading using the in game updater works fine.
