Ok, my assumption is that the log exists but does not get displayed for some reason, especially since other files are missing as well.

As the error message already says, what we need is the log-file ( https://wiki.factorio.com/index.php?title=Log_File for the steam installation its here: ...\steamapps\common\Factorio).
For the steam installation it is still in %appdata%\factorio
(usually C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming ...

i installed the game yesterday and it worked perfectly until today, started the game and got error message.
