You are doing everything correct.

I am on linux, no mods (activated) and starting it without steam.

Sure gladly, I'll try to set up a video tomorrow. For now: 1. Create new game. 2. Play some seconds 3. Save game to a file. 4. Play some seconds 5. Save Game to a different file. 6. Quit Game. 7. Replay the saved game from 5. It will replay until the the saved game from 3. Just validated with 1.1.8 ...
