How about making different varities of the nightvision as an additional option in the game? So the players could choose the one they prefer the most... Heat goggles would be interesting, too, but it isn't that good of an idea if you are staying next to your factory... Some sort of filtering or somet...

It's a lot of work if you have a big base and it would be much easier if you could let the robots build the bricks or cement over the whole base with blueprints. It doesn't need to be the whole base. You could just make a blueprint with a path next to the wall or something, so that you can just walk...
