Re: [1.1.69] Trains get stuck if the destination is disabled and other are full
will just get rid of the enable/disable entirely for 1.2 (it will be replaced with internally forcing limit to 0). There will be no longer "skip schedule record" behavior. Oh god, please don't do that. Especially not without talking to a lot of rail addicts about it first. I use that feat...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
After some additional testing I've thoroughly convinced myself that you are right and this is not a property of buffered intersections at all, but rather it's a consequence of how trains path in factorio more generally. That means this problem, while real, is off topic for this thread. Therefore, I'...

I am getting 500s today as well. Is it the same problem?vinzenz wrote: βThu Feb 10, 2022 9:10 amSorry about that, I fixed the problem. Please try again.ZwerOxotnik wrote: βWed Feb 09, 2022 3:40 pmI can't update and upload new mods on the mod portal.
I keep getting this:Error: Failed to upload mod: Unknown error. (code: 500)

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Based on a little bit of my testing it seems that many buffered intersections out there encourage trains to turn rather than go straight. This may be because of the longer paths inside the intersection from the buffering. Regardless, it leads to high scores on the testbench, where only a single int...

Re: UPS optimized 12-beacon smelting - w/minimal circuits
Can we have a separate category for on-patch smelting? I understand that that is best objectively but it is not really applicable to games using settings closer to default.

Alt-F4 blog has an interesting post on this topic that rekindled my interest.
I'm interested in this reddit post linked off this alt-f4 blog as well.

Re: UPS optimized 12-beacon smelting - w/minimal circuits
Didn't we decide that it's better NOT to include a separate clock mechanism with each smelter array? Rather, we want to use a single clock and link the circuit networks together, right?

I deleted the broken distribution from the portal because I wanted to iterate on the mod pack, so I've attached it here.

Re: Is nuclear power really bad for megabases?
Nobody is saying that nuclear power infrastructure, including the fuel cell chains to keep it running, isn't more complex than that for solar, but you only have to design once (...disregarding the constant desire to "improve" designs). Solar presents a different challenge, at least partia...

Re: Is nuclear power really bad for megabases?
As someone said, it better should be the real base with all the infrastructure. I disagree. This would introduce a variable: a reader might object "well, yeah, but that's what it did with YOUR base, maybe the impact will be different on MY base because of XYZ." I've recently discovered Fa...

Re: Is nuclear power really bad for megabases?
Players have different motivation, I'm not sure if it is worth arguing about that. In no way am I arguing that anyone should not use Solar if it suits their purposes. I just CANNOT emphasize this enough. However, I do think that the often-repeated mantra that "if you are building a megabase, y...

[1.1.53] Mod with broken info.json prevents Factorio from updating any mods
I'm working on my own mod pack for convenience and so others can get a look at the mods I'm using when they ask. Version 0.0.1 of this mod is broken, because I entered `base >= ???` as a dependency in info.json, and "???" is not a version. I attempted to fix that in version 0.0.3. Locally,...

Re: Is nuclear power really bad for megabases?
To clarify, I am not challenging the fact that Solar is O(1) while Nuclear is at best O(n), and so the UPS impact of Solar will always be negligible. Solar will ALWAYS outperform Nuclear at any quantity of output, and the bigger the output, the bigger the performance gap will be. However, Nuclear is...

Is nuclear power really bad for megabases?
Conventional wisdom is that big bases need to use solar power, because nuclear power needs to move steam and heat around, and fluid calculations are expensive -- whereas a solar array of unlimited size only requires a single calculation. In "Big O" terms, Nuclear is at best O(n) while Sola...

Re: UPS-optimized green circuits benchmarking
Interesting. Removing the roboports helped? Even with no bots in them?
I could probably make a python script that would parse the benchmark outputs into csv, if you would find that easier.

Re: UPS-optimized green circuits benchmarking
That result surprised me too, but I didn't want to re-run it just because it surprised me, since that's a well-known methodological bias in scientific sampling. If someone else would attempt to replicate my results and got something different I'd *love* to know.

Cool. I should really learn graphviz. Then I could generate these automatically.
