Re: My first freeplay

I'm due to get a new computer in the next month or so - and intend to look to streaming/video making when I do.

I'll start contemplating some kind of video explanation of Logistic bots. I think that will be the easiest. :)

Re: My first freeplay

A good write up. I'm in agreement about the Logistics. Hard to understand them without seeing them in action, but really bring a lot more freedom to factory design. Interesting about the shotgun. I stuck it out with a flamethrower for the longest time. Would be nice to get some upgrades for that. Ha...

Re: biters NEVER attacking makes for some depressing gamepla

Increase the pollution levels of the game by a magnitude of 10, biter evolutionary speed and spawn, and how often their bases pop up. It's not so simple as that. Doing so just means everyone HAS to play like Muzzy and minimise pollution or get overwhelmed - not really what we're looking for. Of cou...

Re: biters NEVER attacking makes for some depressing gamepla

Love it. Perhaps another way of looking at it though is not as a maze, but as the original sandbox. The place of adventures and imagination. And one of those 'toys' in the sandbox is a 'Big win button'. Like any toy in a sandbox, you don't have to play with it. It's just there for those who wa...

Re: [0.9.3] Too much plastic bar hover

It was playing with a smart inserter for me. I was trying to set it to only pick up metal gears when there were less than X in the network. I don't remember doing anything special.

Re: biters NEVER attacking makes for some depressing gamepla

Aah I see - so it's the fact there is a victory condition (which of course neither EvE nor Lego has! :D ) that is the issue. Correct, I was misunderstanding. I'll have a read of that article too - seems interesting. In the meantime I hope the rule conditions you can allow yourself to apply work for ...

Re: biters NEVER attacking makes for some depressing gamepla

I don't want Factorio to turn into another make-believe RPG where the gameplay consists of little more than playing with imaginary legos. But that's what a sandbox game is. :? It's like going into EvE online and expecting a Word of Warcraft-like endgame - a theme park - where you are guided through...

Re: Wiki: Current and future

Heading home for the day now. I've made a start at some changes/edits. See what you think and if they're in a style that fits.

Don't give up on the concept of the logistics network - I have some ideas there. :)

Re: Possible recipes in different menu.

I voted for separate. There's already the kinda ghosted icons for those items you can't hand craft which confused me for a while (especially when so many suddenly appeared on starting oil for the first time!) What might be nice would be some way of highlighting 'new' recipes somehow the first time t...

Re: Wiki: Current and future

I've applied for an account. I read the Wiki pretty much cover to cover the day after watching a Let's Play, and the day before buying the game. In general it's pretty good and a lot better than many games I've seen. Definite credit to those who have put such work into something changing so fast. De...

I got the same with Metal Iron Gears - just loading a save didn't work for me. I had to close the game and go back in to remove it.

Re: biters NEVER attacking makes for some depressing gamepla

Interesting discussion. To me this game is readily classified in my head as a Sandbox, and in a Sandbox there is sand, and buckets, spades and that's it. The grand pirate adventures, or missions into Mordor than you can concoct rely on your imagination using the tools provided to create fun. The gam...

Re: Factory Designer like a 4x games Space Ship Designer

If I'm understanding the idea correctly then the concept is much like from this screenshot from a game called SpaceChem. http://northwaygames.com/wp-content/uploads/spacechem3.jpg That is the world view - but by clicking each of the factories you then design specifically what behaviour is happening ...

Re: This game is amazing.

I agree entirely. It was OfficialStuffPlus's Let's Play that bought me here about 10 days ago. He's a fairly big You-tuber, but not massive. These forums seem good too. Once you've played a bit more (started pondering on optimising various conceptual parts of your factory, perhaps run some figures i...

Seemed pretty cool until I read : PROVEN LANDS is not a sim, but there is a small eco system... ...More like Project Zomboid and Don't Starve than Minecraft. Entirely a personal thing - but I'm not sure I need another survival game like this. PZ isn't even fully out yet and I've resisted playing mor...

Re: Water pumps

Thanks all for your replies/discussion. Very useful. CherryKiss - I think you're correct. I don't recall seeing the 1.5 boilers to engine ratio elsewhere before, might be worth sneaking into the Wiki somewhere. I edged the line up to 10 boilers last night, and there was an improvement. Squeezing in ...

Re: Water pumps

I tried the electric pump last night (between pipes, before boilers) Flow went from ~9.3 to ~0.5. Perhaps pumps work like boilers and I need a long line to ramp up the speed. Perhaps they should be placed after boilers, or in between steam engines. Much experimentation to be done I guess. Thanks for...

Re: Water pumps

Aaah 30+ tiles I don't recall reading before. Maybe that is it. I'll look in to that. Cheers :) EDIT: I did try adding one of the small pumps, expecting that to perhaps 'boost' water pressure after going through. But no - that seems to be more related to oil based fluids I'm assuming. That might be ...

Water pumps

Greetings, A pretty fresh newb here. Thank Official-Stuff+ and his Let's Play for netting you a sale, and then another when I convinced a friend to buy too :) We're both having considerable fun. A combination of the Wiki, Reddit and the forums, along with the Let's Play - I think I've managed to avo...
