If we have a fast inserter running flat out chest-to-chest, and replace it by a stack inserter moving items at the same rate, the energy consumption (ignoring drain) drops from 46kW to 33kW. @OP : I'm not surprised in the slightest manner with your conclusions. Eyeballing consumption and speed, it seemed to me obvious.
