Good to know. The only reason I even figured out that they placed on the opposite side of a belt was from the tips at the beginning of a new game. I probably played 20 hours without realizing it on my own.

It's not clear based on the current graphics where inserters pick and place to. For example, a normal inserter places on the further side of a belt but picks from both sides of a belt. My 2 cents: I believe the better conversion rate of RimWorld is due to the fact that it isn't as intimidating; it looks clean and easy and the video is more visually appealing. display transparent grid when placing objects
This may already exist as a preference but if not it seems like it would be very useful to have a faint transparent grid appear in a radius around the object when in placement mode. Not only for alignment but also for a visual que that the player is in that mode.
