How about a MASSIVE and hugely fuel hungry heating tower and/or boiler, utilizing the space platform thruster graphics pointed upwards like a hellish smokestack?

It would eat through solid chemical fuel very quickly

Would it be at all feasible to give turbines/steam engines inertia?
As in; a turbine would "spool" up and down over a set period rather than instantly starting or stopping?

Would it also be possible to extend the range of sound pitching beyond just the 50-80% speed range?
