Re: Savefile optimization for landfills
Ok, I tested it on a fresh save and couldn't reproduce. So I guess the large number of platforms wasn't the cause for a savefile size increase.

Savefile optimization for landfills
With the new Aquilo planet, it is now expected for the players to fill large bodies of water with tens of thousands of landfills (or rather ice platforms). This quickly increases the savefile size into tens of megabytes. It would be nice to optimize the corner case of large areas completely covered ...

Re: Air resistance... in space?
relative to the medium
By just adding flat ±10 km/s after all the calculations you will get exactly that. For the purposes of this "friction" we can just ignore that shift. It doesn't matter relative to what the speed must reach zero, since the force of friction is calculated based on that ...

Re: Air resistance... in space?
Trying to figure out how to massage it so that it matches some real life physics is futile.
Well, there are some hints. We see three components to the drag force: the one that correlates with the speed linearly, the one that correlates quadratically, and a constant one. The air friction is a ...

Re: Air resistance... in space?
That's absolutely true. I did a little research in the matter trying to find a formula for maximum speed (here). The width of the ship has a much stronger impact on speed than the mass (which is counter-intuitively almost irrelevant).

Signal output on fuel left
It would be nice to have an additional signal output for the entities with fuel meters: to see how full is the meter, it could be a percentage or a simple control signal fuel/no fuel.
The usecase is for gleba: since the fuel (nutrients) spoils fast it would be nice to provide it only when the meter ...

Re: Space Platform 101 Discussion
Today I spent the whole day trying to derive the formula for the platform max speed. It turned out to be a much more complicated process than I anticipated. At first I thought that it would be an easy linear relation between the platform mass, thrust and max speed. And at first it indeed looked like ...

[2.0.15] Deconstructing space platform foundation may not update the map
I tried to reproduce the issue but couldn't, so I can't say what exactly caused that. Still, you can clearly see the the foundations and the foundation ghosts are left on the map. They disappeared after I exited the remote view and entered it again.

Go have some sleep. It's still 11 hours before the release. You need to be fresh.ofca wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 11:29 pm I'm sitting in the office on Sunday midnight. Waiting for Space Age to release, so I can do some...erm... "work"![]()

Re: Wen Space Age?
People generally do not sit in the offices on sunday midnight.
That being said, it seems that they just uploaded v2.0.7 of the game. So I guess somebody does sit in the office on sunday midnight. Talk about dedication...

Re: Space Age - running a server?
This is also how the pterodactyl/pelican script does it. Checks if the savefile exists, and runs if it doesn't. I guess there should be a switch in . At least that's how I would implement it
Code: Select all
--create
Code: Select all

Re: Space Age - running a server?
The game will be available on Linux on release, in both regular and headless versions. The freely distributed headless version will come with Space Age support.
Does it mean that there won't be a separate server binary for space age hosting? How do you switch the game between "vanilla" and "SA ...

Still hoping that the linux-headless package of space age will be available during the weekend. Would be a shame to spend monday fighting with the docker.

Space Age dedicated server release date.
So the release date for the expansion is 21st, which is monday.
Please, consider releasing the dedicated server package in advance. It would be nice to solve all the hosting issues during the weekend, so that on monday after work I could start right away (not everybody took a vacation for this ...

Re: Friday Facts #432 - Aquilo
I know this might be a bit nitpicky and I also know that it is just a game, but... am I the only one that gets thrown off that the railgun has a cratridge that gets ejected? I mean the basic principle of a Railgun is to take basically a metal spear and yeet it forward using magnets (I will let ...

Why the railguns are shooting backwards in space? The asteroids are not usually catching up with the platforms from behind.

Re: Friday Facts #431 - Gleba & Captivity
Personally I'm worried that video thumbnails and titles will give away too much.
Well, just like I said, if any sort of media can be spoiled by a single phrase "the butler did it" that probably means it was worthless to begin with. The main attraction of factorio is not to discover what kind of ...
