like usally you have to be next to a structure to build something maybe this can help by building it without being next to it

There could be a boss battle that when you collect over 2,000 alien goo you could summon a giant alien boss then after you defeat him then you can trade and interact with the aliens

Maybe you can build an A.I that will help you out with things like researching without being next to your structure. that adds up everything you have in your storage (call it an A.I storage make it really easy to build and it can be upgraded to interact with robots).

Maybe ruins of old players that lost cause of raids from the bugs and you could scavenge for starter games thing in chest but slight chance that the bugs might be there still
