[0.18.8] Spitter not moving, spitting randomly at ground

After an attack by a pack of aliens, I have on multiple occasions experienced a couple of them standing at the rail near 'Copper Mine Beta' (north/west) just randomly spitting at the ground. They don't move or hit anything important (sometimes the track), until either hit by a train or killed by me passing by. Save games shows a single medium spitter flinging spit in random directions (sometimes at a worker robot, but mostly just the ground).
