[0.17.7] Syncing with save shows incorrect status for deprecated mods
I started working on bringing my heavily modded 0.16 save into 0.17, and came across this very confusing sight in the "Sync mods with save" dialog.
After briefly trying to think when I installed a mod from outside the portal, I checked: More-Locomotives is in fact still on the mod portal. It's deprecated (replaced by Train Overhaul), but it's there.
This mod definitely belongs under the "No release" heading. Saying it's "Not on mod portal" is confusing, at the least.

You are missing one thing - More locomotives has no 0.17 version. So dialog is actually correct

Can you check what it shows now? I was told that it should work now.

Updated to 0.17.9 via Steam and removed my edited version of the mod from the mod folder.
Sadly, it is still displayed under "Not on mod portal".

You removed the mod from the mod portal and it shows it's not on the mod portal?
Or you marked it as deprecated?

Actually, the more I think about this I think it's fine for it to say it's not on the mod portal. Marking a mod as deprecated might as well be not-on-the-mod-portal.

Neither; it's not my mod. I just moved the .zip file out of ~/.factorio/mods
I'm under the impression that at least syncing mods from an existing save should still work for deprecated mods, because of this post I found while researching (emphasis mine):

That seems problematic in the cases where "deprecated" means "working perfectly, just not maintained anymore" ?

Another common meaning of "deprecated" is "works fine today, no promises it will work fine tomorrow. you can keep using it, but you shouldn't *start* using it."

I'm sorry Rseding91 deprecated mods should be aviable for syncing, just as they are still on the portal for manual download!
Right now there are at least some amount of players playing stable RIGHT now and lots of 0.16 mods have been marked as deprecated.
On top of that we just ran into this problem that one of the mods we are currently using was merged with another, and the one we are using was marked as deprecated hence no one can use the server auto sync option that was finally added in 0.17.
Not to mention as Klonan said both in the forums and in a FFF that we could still use the single player option 'can still use it by syncing from a save game '

Just to make some things clear: Deprecated mods are available for syncing, here is an example with one of my own mods:
What isn't available are mods that don't have a version of the game version that you are using, such as the mod in the first post - https://mods.factorio.com/mod/More-Locomotives. The real won't fix here is the heading in the mod sync dialog, not anything related to the syncing itself.
And after further investigation, it turns out that that was also fixed! SeablockTweaks is a deprecated 0.16 mod, just like the mod in the first post, and displayed correctly.
