[posila] Alt Info icons for letter/number virtual signals unreadable

Post by justarandomgeek »

On 0.14.2, the letter/number icons for these signals are getting rendered nearly unreadably at most zoom levels, including zoom=1, shown here:

On 0.13.19, zoom=1 is nice and readable:

Isn't there a Factorio config setting for this? Something about enabling linear filtering for icons...

So there is! But, when I set it back to "on" and restart, it flips itself back off again!

Can you post your log file? Also are you using any command line options to launch the game?

There was a change in 0.14.2 that would turn off some of the graphics heavy options if it detected your video card as a lower-end model.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

I had some non-functional options set in steam still, but removing them (so, no options at all now) does not change the behavior. Attached is a log of the restart after setting the linear scaling option back to on.

That is supposed to work only when generating default values for config, and this GPU is not detected as low-end anyway.

What happened is that I added launch option "--gfx-safe-mode" which turns off bunch of things and now I found out, that Steam version goes to safe-mode regardless of the launch options being used. Dammit :(.
One of the thing it turns off is linear filtering for icons, which makes them unreadable sometimes in alt-mode.

Fixed gfx-safe-mode being always turned on on Steam version for 0.14.3

Question is ... should we also attempt to fix the problem of readibility when linear filtering is turned off?
Edit: Ok, only reasonable way how to solve it is to use linear filtering.

Thank you! I look forward to having readable signs again! :)

As to the remaining question, my user-opinion is that it won't matter nearly as much once the option is once again working as expected!
