[0.13.8] Circuit network lighting artifacts at higher zooms

Post by Kirk »

If you load the attached save you should be on a belt. Zoom out a lot, and as you move sideways, you'll see artifacts in the lighting on the circuit network over time. If you move around yourself the effect is much faster and appears to flicker. Of course, this only happens at night.

Maybe it isn't the same, I could only observe my flicker during the day when moving slowly.
So maybe related but not the same.
I don't have Factorio installed on this PC so I can't test it now.

I cannot reproduce the issue on my PC/Monitor,

So im pretty sure it is a hardware specific issue

You've got lights render quality on some super low something - that chopping cone of the player's flashlight shows it.

Turn the lights quality up to the max and see what it looks like then.

I can confirm that this is an issue related to the lights render quality:

Changes for 0.13.9:
Changed lights overlay to render with linear magnification filter to reduce blockiness and flicker of lights on lower "Lights rendering quality" settings.
Changes default value for "Lights rendering quality" from 0.2 to 1.0. Configurations with old default value will be changed to new default value.
New minimum value for "Lights rendering quality" will be 0.25.

My apologies, I was not aware of this setting. It was indeed 0.20. Was it added recently? I recall setting everything to the maximum a while ago.

No problem.
I think the setting was there for a long long time, but the default value was 0.2 ... so the game looked bad with default settings and we fixed it.
