TL;DR
Allow players to combine waiting conditions into reusable chunks across stops.
Why?
I've been playing Factorio for a couple of years now and currently on a save with a friend of mine with hundreds of stations and hundreds of trains. Creating a new station involves setting up new trains for our setup. Which requires setting up waiting conditions. We usually are satisfied with a simple waiting condition which we use across our entire setup. Sometimes more complex, sometimes less.
I can tell you that when you click the same 3 buttons so many times, it gets frustrating to set up trains (or space platforms). As such we hold off more on setting up trains than we should. Which is why I've got a proposed solution for trains and space platform waiting conditions.
What?
Allow users to create a custom waiting condition similar to how you can set up a new interrupt.
When the player clicks the add waiting condition button a new option would be added to the list.
Clicking on "Select Preset" will now open a new dialog window.
In this dialog we can select criteria similar to how we can do this in the regular waiting conditions. An optional proposal is to allow the use of parameters so a player can select "Item Count" and change the item parameter to the applicable choice.
Once saved, the preset will display similar to how an interrupt would show up, but it would show up as a waiting condition. Because of this, the condition can be treated like a condition within itself. You'd be able to use OR / AND statements to calibrate waiting time.
On hover you could optionally show the values of the waiting condition.
Why I think it's a shame to leave Factorio development before implementing this QOL improvement
Personally I've been a big fan of all the additions Space Age has made. I'm also very fond of the changes and additions in 2.1. During the playthroughs my friend and I played, we've often been perplexed by the amount of insane optimizations and small QOL features to the point where we went from doubting the game, to thinking we were stupid if we could think of a feature and couldn't find it within the game.
Throughout our years playing the game we had very little complaints. Unfortunately the train menu has always felt clunky because of this precise shortcoming. A lot of systems are made easier and are able to be automated in this game. From blueprinting to circuit networks. But setting up logistics like this is one of the few things were we're unable to create something from smaller building blocks that we have defined as players. That's why I'm hoping to see this change implemented, as it would remove the last bit of friction I have felt with the game.
