Option to prevent Escape from exiting Map mode

Post by PresJPolk »

Hi,

So in Factorio 1, it made sense for escape to take you out of Map mode and back to regular mode. If you needed the menu or whatever it wasn't a big deal to go back to whatever you were doing.

But in Space Age, leaving map mode takes you to a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLANET a lot of the time! Having that happen when I try get to the menu (or out of habit trying to switch back to regular zoom level from the 'map level' zoom), is frustrating.

I'd like the option to disable Escape/Cancel getting out of map mode. You can already press the map mode button to switch back, so it's not like you'd be trapped. I propose that if you're in the map mode and not doing anything else, and this option is set, Escape should open the menu instead of exiting map mode.

Please, please, please... You're obviously expected to be in map mode a lot more in Space Age. This would be a major quality of life change.

thank you,

Yeah, that's something that annoyed me quite a bit as well, since I use the Escape menu when I need to pause the game. I managed to work around that by switching to opening up the technology menu instead.

Still annoying, though.

Use Shift-Space to “pause” the game first; then use Escpar to open the Menu. This leaves the Map/Remote View “as-is”.

I think you may have rebound keys, because in the default controls shift-space shoots stuff, and does nothing in remote view.
'pause' defaults to the 'pause' key (which my keyboard doesn't even have! as barely any programs use that key).

You’re right! I completely forgot about it, because most of my keyboards don’t have a “Pause” button anymore, just the useless Fn keys.
