[StrangePan][2.0.12] Tesla turret friendly fires walls

Post by kitsunex »

I first noticed this in my deathworld game as I finally started using artillery to clear out bases. I noticed massive chunks of walls being killed on nauvis, and I saw my tesla turrets sometimes taking out 10 walls in a single shot. I replicated this bug in sandbox mode and attached are 2 screenshots of it happening with production stats to show that it counts as a kill. One thing of note is that it seems to happen consistently only with big biters, not behemoths. I can only assume the big biters are small enough somehow to clip into a wall and cause issues.

Edit: Further testing with pentapod attacks showed that small pentapods that were attacking the tesla turret could make a neighboring tesla turret blow up both the pentapod and the friendly turret

I don't know if it's a bug or a similarities with flame thrower or artillery, but i can confirm tesla have friendly fire potential. Depending on where you use them you may want a different shape than usual for the defense. Some of the small pentapod can be "thrown" above walls by straffers, from my testing they would latch onto the closest damage dealer. This require planning for as the electric arc can bounce to your own structure if the original burst lands too close to friendly things. ( despite the tooltip saying "secondary ENNEMIES" ). This part cannot be avoided even with selection of priorities and ticking the "avoid unlisted" it can still happen that the arc bounces of friendly structure.

Where i find it the most visible was when a solid row of tesla turrets in editor , was sometimes wrecking the substations behind them, cutting themselves off power, despite all the biters being in front of them, due to secondary arcs.

Shouldn’t walls be immune to electricity, anyway?

This is definitely a bug; tesla beams from turrets should not be arcing to friendly buildings.

But walls didn't get electricity resistance for some reason :|

Electrical resistance might get added later. The targeting bug was a higher priority.
