[Donion] [2.0.10] Music replaced with constant buzzing
Been trying to play again sense the DLC is out, have a very annoying but not detrimental issue. The music while in a game is replaced with a buzzing (on all planets + space). I have removed all mods, verified the game files, completely re-installed the game, changed audio drivers, lowered audio buffer rates, basically every solution I could find and yet the issue persists. This has been happening since august last year but now that the DLC is out I'd like a solution. If anyone has any clue how to fix, please inform me. TLDR:
What did you do: played the game with music turned up
What happened: music is replaced with a buzzing/stuttering sound
What did you expect to happen instead: for the music to play
Does it happen always, once, or sometimes: Always when the music volume is up, Disappears when music is turned to 0%
OS: Windows
(no save attached because the issue is not bound to one save)

Do you mean the in-game setting of preferred audio driver or in Windows? There are two option for the in-game driver, default is wasapi which is shown being used in the log. Did you try the directSound option?
Do you happen to have a different audio interface available to try, like headphones with their own USB sound "card" for example?

I have tried the in game audio drivers, but I am not too sure how to change my PCs audio drivers (I've tried using ASIO4ALL but it either does not work or I'm doing it wrong)
As for audio interfaces, I'm not sure I have anything with its own sound card.

What format is set for your audio device (Advanced tab in Speaker Properties in Sound Control Panel)

You've mentioned buffer rates. Where did you set those and what is it set to now?
Do you have any additional software that handles audio (some kind of control panel that came with your motherboard/drivers, stuff like that)?

I have been changing my buffer size with ASIO4All, currently at 512 (have tried changing up and down to no avail).
As for additional software I have Realtek audio console, not sure about any others.
I've tried fiddling with the settings in the Realtek audio console but have turned up no results.

I'm not familiar with ASIO4All, so I don't know if that would cause the issues, what are you using it for?
Are there any changed settings in the Realtek audio console? I see it also have a output format for example.

I'm using ASIO4ALL as it was suggested to fix a similar problem in this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comme ... ing_issue/)(Using ASIO4ALL to try and fix, not working)
And all settings in Realtek are default.

Well, if it doesn't help in any way I would try removing it and then try changing the output format (for example to 16bit/44100Hz).

I removed ASIO and tried changing my output format starting from 16/44100 going all the way up to 24/192000 with no change. The only time I have been able to alter the Buzzing is launching the game on steam with the startup modification "--audio-driver allegro" (found on a steam discussion) which would lower the buzzing into more of a cracking (reduced rate). This has stopped working with the release of 2.0 (guessing due to the in-game audio options added). Also my initial report was incorrect about when this noise happens, having turned my music up I've noticed that it plays both the start-up jingle and main menu theme fine (not sure this changes anything but you never know).

Can you try disabling a hidden setting "stream-from-disk" (Ctrl + Alt + Click the Settings button, go to The Rest and search for that setting).

This did not work, however while looking through "the rest" I found a setting in the sound section called "ambient-music-mode". This (for whatever reason) was set to Main-Menu instead of randomize (most likely why I could get the main menu theme but nothing in-game). Changing the setting to any other (chose randomize first but seems to work on others) removes the buzzing and allows music to play. Thank you for the help .

Oh my dog! I would never thought of that! I'll get it fixed. Thank you so much for the help.
You should set the mode to "Interleave-main-tracks-with-interludes" as that is the intended way. Leaving it on randomize will play tracks meant to be played on specific planets everywhere.

And by the way, it's not really replaced with "buzzing", it keeps starting the main menu track because of the setting and next tick it stops it because main menu tracks are not supposed to play in game. Next tick it will start it again because of the setting, then stop it and so on.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was loading a bunch of stuff it would sometimes play around a second of the main-menu theme instead of "buzzing"; guess that's why.Donion wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 8:02 am And by the way, it's not really replaced with "buzzing", it keeps starting the main menu track because of the setting and next tick it stops it because main menu tracks are not supposed to play in game. Thanks again for the report and help, the issue is now fixed for the next release.
