Hello,
I am experiencing graphical glitches under Ubuntu. I am brand new to Linux, so perhaps I am simply missing something that may be obvious to other users.
The graphics around text are not showing, and when in play it will only show blocks of terrain instead of a full screen, as the included screenshots will show.
To keep the length of this post down to a minumum I have linked directly to the images instead of including them in this post.

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
Welcome to the club :/
https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... php?t=1991
So your GPU is actually not the radeon but i915-managed Intel?
Does the VRAM information apply to both GPUs?
64-bit ubuntu? 64bit factorio?
OR, I'm sure you will be able to completely disable the Intel GPU in BIOS-or-whatever.
Does that make factorio run? (Not considering whether it's acceptable to disable Intel)
I don't have switcheable, so no idea whether or how it could be switched.

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
Hey, thanks for the reply,
I am using the 64bit version of ubuntu. And it appears that ubuntu is indeed using the intel for graphics.
I should add that I have tried to install Cathalist Control Centre (CCC) for switching between cards as I did on windows, but the moment I try to install it (and the associated propriatary driver) linux goes cold upon reboot and I have to reinstall linux. So no luck there,
I have looked into the BIOS but the SETUP (press delete during boot to get into SETUP) does not allow me to turn off any hardware. or so it seems, maybe I am overlooking something, entirely possible.
Also not, I am completely new to linux. I am getting a rash course on Tuesday, and the person giving me that course will have a look at my pc because it was having troubles under windos that I could not solve or find the root of.
I have included a hardinfo report on my computer, I would assume that th VRAM is accesable by both cards. But I can in no way guarantee that unfortunately.
Should I copy my reports to your forum thread?

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
We already found a way to let the user pick the GPU to be used, so we will use it somehow in the next release.
Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
Assuming that works, it would be amazing. I was really enjoying the game on windows before my desktop died, my laptop had all kinds of issues under windows.. hence the move.
Just want to play factorio now.. it has become a bit of n addiction

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
App-chosen GPU on linux?
That would be too good news to be true.
Let's say, that I'm a bit skeptical, since that would mean that drivers for both gpus got loaded and Xserver recognizes them.
Last time I checked, X11 restart was required in order to switch the GPU. It's by no means recent observation, though.
PS: If you link me to a system manual (those things typically list all options available through SETUP), I might be able to confirm that it cannot switch for you.
Last time I dealt with such configuration, there was some item with a choice of { Discrete, Switchable, ?Intel? }
EDIT: Was the linux installation really THAT dead? I would expect at least GRUB to show up and offer a "rescue mode"

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
*bump*
I'm having the exact same issue on my Linux laptop--that is, the screenshots show exactly what I see. Has there been any resolution to this?
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 x64, Core 2 Duo, Intel GM45 Express graphics.
The game works fine on my newer, better Windows box--and I love it. Great game.

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
Should also add that I tried it under Wine with the exact same results.

https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... php?t=1991 is the correct thread for Intel GPUs
This thread is actually for switchable graphics support

Re: [0.9.8] graphical glitches on Ubuntu
Just in case anyone is still suffering from this, you could test the workaround to use smaller textures that fixes some intel problems:
https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... 595#p36595
Maybe it can help in this case, too. It's worth a try.
Nice to see the list of open bugs report shrink to 1 page and a few more bugs on the second page.
