If you could land on the Shattered Planet, what would it be like?

Not sure if this topic has come up before but the idea interests me (and hopefully some of you).

What would the Shattered Planet game mechanics be? What tech would you unlock and take back to Nauvis?

I'll go first. Little islands which can't be connected by rails, belts, or maybe even bots. Instead you attach engines to them so you can push production around as needed. These can be scheduled like trains. You need some mechanic to keep the player from bunching up too many of them.

Considering how ships usually crash-land there, I'd imagine a world filled with rogue turrets, biters, maybe a few spidertrons and tanks, all shooting at each other and the player. There will be scraps recycling to legendary buildings while spawning tough living enemies when recycled.

With the omnipresence of railguns and explosive rockets, there will be some kind of magnetic deflector tech to defend against such threats. The abundance of quantum processors should have led to better modules / beacons / research buildings, invented by smart evolved biters and needing eggs to function. There could be improvised combat vehicles, sprouting a mixture of asteroid collector arms, biter legs, and space thrusters. The necessity of digging through all the promethium would have enabled efficient digging tech, allowing building underground bases on other planets.

I like it. Sort of post-apocalyptic, Mad Max Factorio.

The core of the planet is where all the gravity is. That will pull heavier elements down. So, the sky's the limit. Because we don't know what promethium is, and what it's elemental properties are. So we don't know what is there.

Heavier elements could include things like gold, or uranium. Gravity is going to be an interesting question because for all we know promethium treats it with humor.

Ooh...hover technology. What could you do with that?

Building with heavy elements sounds like there are a lot of possibilities.

Mod fodder my friend. So much mod fodder. You're already playing with heavier elements, because Uranium, Tungsten and Holmium both all game changers (see the EM Plant). Just using a more abundant light element differently results in interesting results; carbon fiber.

You also have to solve slight problems that occur irl like "Wait, tungsten weighs more than iron". Or "How do I keep the ice from melting." A force field could make a really interesting thermos, I think a FFF mentioned that indirectly when talking about ice.

The end result is combining them, yielding fusion by using the holmium to refine a pure kind of lithium. Angel-Bob's shows what going into detail accomplishes. Going a step further might be like having... you're own baby pulsar with all the issues that entails when it pukes gamma rays in one direction.

You'd need a way to get around... normal foundation doesn't work, but thrusters on mech armor would... jumping spiders exist.

maybe an equipment for the spidertron that allows it to jump, though i'm not sure how feasible that would be. I think in my head to force using the jumping trains you'd be unable to expand your working area with foundations or any equivalent

I think it would be interesting to "unshatter" the planet.

The UI would present us with small floating isles on random trajectories. The only way to eventually build a factory would be to attach fitting pieces together so they can't drift away anymore. Techs would include small guiding jets and clamps. The jets would be attached to floating islands to steer them slowly in position so they could be connected by clamps. The better the fit the less holes you have in your new bigger plane.

Small holes of less than 1 (or 2?) blocks can be closed with foundation, anything wider would be unstable, so it is important to find really well fitting islands.
