[1.1.109] Crash (UnitGroup::setActiveConditionally)

What did you do?
I have a megabase (1600 trains, 50k inserters.. and so on). I am using lots of mods. Sometimes, can happen in the loading screen, in the main menu or in-game it crashes.
I have finally Isolated a case when this happens 100% of the time, not at the same time every occasion but it happens. It seems that happen when it suddenly requires more computing power.

What happened?
The game crashed

What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
The game should not crash. Not much more.

Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
It has happened many times, but I was able to basically launch the game again praying for it not to happen too soon... I was lucky most of the time until now.

If you can reproduce the issue provide the exact steps!
Just load the saved game

If you load that save and let it run without interacting, will it always crash at the same time?

Hello,
No the time taken is random, some minutes.

Then this is not a game issue but unstable hardware, if it were a bug in the game it would crash the same tick with the same error every single time.

Hello,

I have checked the hardwares health and reinstalled windows in a clean install.
I have run the game several times and it has crashed 6 times in two different ticks:
446134472 2 times
446133660 4 times

I run the save game and do not interact at all. (perhaps I was interacting before and thats why the different timestamps)

I am attaching the logs.

Could be related to this? viewtopic.php?f=11&t=105935

Thank you in advance.

It is interesting that they are generally related to unit AI, but even those crashing the same tick have different stack traces, one is failing a consistency check and one doesn't even seem to crash in factorio code.

Hello,

Have you been able to reproduce?

Any interactions ike opening the map, moving the location or anything will affect the outcome.

Could be this related to behaviour related mods?

I'm on my phone, I will try it later today.

I let it run for 70min at 20ups without issue.

Try the following: In the bios, set the ram speed to something very low, lower than 5600, disable all P-cores and disable all the overclocking features like thermal velocity boost, boost max and what ever else this chip has. Run the save with those settings and see how long until it crashes.

Hello,

I have done this, I setted the default values and disabled turbo and all overclocking features.
I also have progressively lowered the memory frequency until 3200Mhz.

This had no effect and is still crashing quite fast, some seconds after loading.

Let's summarize:
When you try to reproduce it by letting the save run, it crashes at different times. It crashes with different stack traces.
Nobody else who has run the save so far (Loewchen, me) has been able to reproduce any crash by letting it run.
You say "It seems that happen when it suddenly requires more computing power.".
You have a i9-14900K.
The i9-14900K CPUs have known crashing problems, see e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAE4NWoyMZk and https://forums.warframe.com/topic/14050 ... rocessors/.

All of this points to a faulty CPU. The warframe forum post suggests that a BIOS update might help and the video suggest lowering RAM speed as well, but also makes clear that it only sometimes helps. If none of that helps, your only other option will be to replace the CPU.

Hello,

I went down the rabbit hole of this processor issue... and yes, seems that Intel has messed up.
Yesterday they released an official communicate: https://community.intel.com/t5/Processo ... -p/1617113

They are promising a fix for this... I will wait for this before getting a new CPU.

This is sad because I built this computer to play Factorio and now it is useless... :(

Thank you for your support. As soon as this is resolved from Intel's side I will get back to you hopefully with good news.

Thank you for the efforts.

Regards.

Hello again.

After we had the conversation related to this I have waited for the new BIOS update.
Now it has come out and I have runned the game without crashes for more than 2 hours straight.

I could say that this was the problem all along and now is fixed.

Thank you so much for your support and finesse identifying the issue.

Regardless, now that the expansion is so close, I will wait for it to start over again... this is how much I love this game.

Regards.
