[1.1.68] 'Energy source error' when loading save/autosaves

This is a vanilla/unmodded installation. Also an issue with [1.1.69] beta.

Any time I try to load my save, from either 'continue' or single-player -> load, my game or any of its autosaves, the save loads about 60% then reliably crashes. The logs say

Code: Select all

Error ElectricEnergySourcePrototype.cpp:57: Energy source error, most probable cause is the double entity problem.
I wish I could say more about what got the game into this state, but I wouldn't know where to start thinking about it.

Thanks for the report. This means that the save file has been corrupt some how. Do you have any idea how I can get a good save file into this corrupt state?

I'm afraid not. I was just playing and building, then the next day my save no longer worked. Unfortunately I'm seeing a similar issue again; I started a new save file and now it won't load either. This time, no crash, but failure to load with a "Notice" screen and the message "Invalid SignalID type: 51"

Once again, all three autosaves have the same issue, so I'm guessing something I built or removed 15+ minutes ago is finding an edge case. (new save file, lazy2.zip)

Repeated unrelated corruption across different save files says to me hardware instability. Are you running the XMP profile on your RAM? That is one of the most common ways I've seen hardware instability cause memory corruption. If so, try disabling it. It won't fix the existing broken saves but if that is the issue it will prevent future ones from getting broken.
