Sorry, I wish I knew how to reproduce this. Making the report in case anyone else comes across this somehow or can figure out what I did.

I had a passive provider chest that was holding a bunch of my high quality items, an inserter feeding it from my "lucky assembler" to make personal equipment. Been sitting there for 50 hours. Had maybe 20 different quality items, a few of each.

I hooked up a green wire to the chest and assembler, to make a limited quantity of solar panels. Chest was defaulted on "read contents" and assembler only set to "read ingredients". Right after, a bunch of logistics bots came and took the items away. And they disappeared off the face of the planet.

They're not in my inventory, they're not in the logistics network if I request any of them back. I use the Factory Search mod and it can't find any of them. I haven't automated any other requesters or assembly or anything with quality, like a couple of these were rare fusion reactors I was just gearing up to make my first spidertron, there is nowhere requesting any of these things. It's like my passive chest suddenly got turned into an active provider, and they got stored into another dimension. There aren't any settings that should even cause things to get carried out of this chest, much less delete them. I went back to an autosave and they're sitting there, so I know exactly what was in that chest, but it's making me lose my mind where they could have gone. Reconnecting the same wire in the autosave doesn't reproduce the problem.

If you manage to reproduce it post a save file and exact steps and add the version of the game to the title please, see 3638.

saves attached before and after losing the items if that helps any, the "got items back" save is from the autosave a few min before it happened. Still haven't been able to reproduce.

All items are in the requester chest that is right there. The situation is: passive provider reads its contents onto green wire, green wire is connected to AM3, and requester chest.
Requester chest has enabled Set requests, so it sets requests to signals on green wire, which are AM3's recipe's ingredients and contents of provider chest.
Thus it requests all contents of the provider chests and robots deliver it.
Provider chest is now empty, sends no signals, requester chest no longer requests that stuff.

It has also revealed that Factory Search isn't actually finding everything, especially inconsistent about quality items.

I really like this thread. It reminds me of how I fell in love with factorio in the first place... making mistakes, things going completely wrong from how you thought they would, losing things... and these actions revealing the true nature of the game better than any tutorial or faq.

Please don't feel like a fool. Now, you KNOW a thing about the circuit network that you did not before, and you know the game will faithfully try to do what you tell it, even if it's a bad idea.
