Hi Gotbread, can you please update the topic's first post with the template found here too ?

Why use a new topic ? You can update your original post's subject line to reflect the change - that way, those of us following will get updated and don't need to follow a new thread

Also you can then update the post with the new version and information and put spoiler alerts for older versions. Please look at other mod posts for reference.

Thank you for the mod :)

yes, sure :) should i update the old post, this one, or both? Should i set the topic to 0.12? (because its postet in the "0.11 and below"-section)
jockeril wrote:Why use a new topic ?
since the 0.12 version is not 0.11 compatible, i tought it should be clear that there are two versions.

Better not open new post for every major version, just update the one and those who follow will catch up. Also - the post can be linked in both 0.11 and 0.12 - I've seen that before.

Two things I noticed:

1. There is a power limit of 10MW on one transformator - is that by design?
2. Trying to rotate or remove already placed transformator results in error.

Other then those - it's a great solution for playing with power and steam engines until we get circuitry. Main drawback is the power grid separation - you can't see state of accus in solar network when looking from consumer network.

Yes this is intentional. First, it makes the code easier, because i have to at least provide enough energy for 2 ticks, and making the
"output energy buffer" to large has some side effects.

And i ran tests with an external base with a 7x7 accumulator grid, storing 245 MJ. This was enough to power the base, since they got recharged every 80 seconds,
which seems reasonable for a large train system. Just two transformators in parallel are enough to charge them fully in ~12 seconds. So you should ne be limited
by the power limit ;) (And instant-charge is somewhat unrealistic)

Should i implement several tiers of transformators? Size is a problem here, 2x4 is a reasonable size, but i dont want them to be too big.

Thanks, this was a bug caused by the namechange, i overlooked some events :) fixed in 0.0.3

You are mostly looking at train accu usage.
I was thinking solar field plus accus powering whole base through transformer. Then 10MW is not that much and turned out to be to low for my base.
Higher tier transformer would be useful. I did not try but few in parallel could also work - just need to plan for that :D

You got me there :D

A new tier of transformators, what should be its power rating? Real life transformators can go to 500MVA, some even higher.
Maybe 200MVA? How big should it be? 4x6 ?
(Offtopic: amazing how the player can carry a few stacks of hundreds of tons heavy devices :D )

I have no idea - twice the size then maybe 4 times the power or something along those lines.

Could you also keep it updating in this thread - keeping 0.12 mod updated in 0.11 mods section will make for a bit of confusion and missed updates.

I updated the original post with the template, but pasting the same information here will be confusing too.
Not sure what to do :?:

Just got an idea, maybe 3x7, but now it requires an active oil cooling. So you need a pump which runs continuously, which
would increase the power capability.

This part of forum is for mods for 0.12 so it should be here. Download you provided in old thread won't work with 0.11 unless you have 2 separate ones.

Do I need to do anything specific to make transformer drain power from accumulators?
When connected to solar array and accu array it will lose power when night falls and steam engines on other side will start up to compensate.

Input side has some 500+MJ of energy in accumulators that stays in them. Using version 0.3.0.

This is really strange, im looking into it right now... seems 0.12 changed something about the energy system.
Currently the transformator produces power even without input.

Normally the transformator would drain the accumulators as soon as they are connected, given you have a load
on the other side. This was tested and worked fine in 0.11 :(

It actually got me to look at combinator controlled night power switch for steam engines :D

Finally got the power priority working. Should work as intended now, with accumulators, solar panels,
steam engines :)

Also working on a bigger transformator with more power capability.

See original post for 0.0.4 version

because it's a duplicate and makes it impossible to follow the mod progression. Go to this post.
