More things to do with water

I couldn't find this anywhere else, so i made a new topic.
Lately i've been watching the water in Factorio and saying:"This needs more uses and capabilities".
So i thought of some ways to use it...
1). I think it should be possible to build some kind of trenches(don't know the correct word), that water can flow into and using this you can create your own rivers, lakes and possibly oceans. The trenches can also slow and push biters away(for example, 1-wide trenches can slow and push small biters until they cross it (eventually) and you need at least 3-wide trenches to slow and push medium biters.
2). there should be a way to make watermills, which can be put on the trenches (1) and can create small amounts of electricity or in the future some rotary energy for which... i have not imagined a use yet.
3). Also bridges would be great, especially some openable and closable bridges, but i am aware that this has been mentioned already in here https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=6&t=9103 and here https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =14&t=9202 . I think waterproof/floating transport belts would be cool as well.

Bridges have been requested, and sugested quite often

I kind of like the idea of the watermills as a power source, though the abilly to determine what is a stream, and building a stream, might be a bit more awkward, practical wise.

(Sorry, don't take it personally, I'm just doing moderator stuff. ;) )

The idea with trenches is more or less new, but for me currently unclear, how this should work.

Thank you sslik for showing me these links and also for helping m create more readable posts in the future! :)
and to clear up how trenches should work:
you build the trench you use an item(easy crafting recipe for example something like 2 wood or 1 wood and 1 iron plate(shovel)) and then, factorio checks if there is a water/stream/river tile around the trench, if there is it builds a stream/river tile, if there are 2 or more water/stream/river tiles it still builds a river tile, but the flow speed is really slow and slower with each additional water tile around the central tile until the 6th, when there are 6 water tiles around the central tile it becomes a lake tile, also if it is in a corner or a side area (like all the boxes except the middle one in a tic-tac-toe board) it is a lake tile with no momentum. if there are no water tiles around a placed trench tile, it is just a hole(slows movement a bit).

this is all very complicated (because of me) but if you want me to clear things up more, just say so.

Sorry, this description makes everything even worse. :)
And before you try it once more: don't describe the details! Describe, what you want to play. Think about how it should work, the basic principle.

For example here: my idea would be to implement some new and special types of "water pipes", that look like a little brook and have a direction. The map generator can place them randomly between lakes., maybe the character can create own pieces of "brook" to generate more of them. To make them work, both ends needs to end in a lake. I can place some kind of watermill nearby to produce power.

The devs aren't stupid, they can think about the implementation details.

well... now i can make readable and good posts myself. :)
thanks for giving these tips, i'm not really good at understanding rules on the first glance :D
