Cargo Ships is alive and well. Oil Rigs are an optional feature in it
. Cargo Ships even includes an API so other mods can add new ships that use the same mechanics. All you need are the graphics models.

Using Pumpjack rather than offshore oil rigs and boats feels like a missed opportunity, but on the other hand I understand the gameplay choice of not having boats. Having a new massive building just for that would be a waste of graphic asset / RAM.

... is silly and has nothing to do with how it actually works.
It works with oil rigs since they only mine 1 resource node. And normal miner also mines only 1 node but calculation doesn't take that into account on infinite patches.
