Ghost placement in map mode

TL;DR
When in map mode, entities should be always placed as ghosts even if you have the item in your inventory.
What ?
I did check this collection (
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=45635), but it looks like this is missing.
ATM, when you are in map mode, if you have an item in your inventory you have to press SHIFT to place it as a ghost.
While this make sene when playing directly with your engineer, it does less so when you are using the map/radar, because it's implicit that you are operating at another scale or you are planning.
When in map mode, entities should be always placed as ghosts (and maybe press SHIFT TO INVERT the process and place from inventory)

Does that really make sense to inverse control in map mode? I have for example always problems to see, that I’m now in map-mode. Or not.

In my experience, when I am in map mode, I almost always keep SHIFT pressed.
My pinky finger is aching...

I support this. Perhaps best served as option besides the select elements as ghost if not in inventory selection in the options.

You can just change it via keybinds, which I will start doing.. Perhaps that is what jodokus meant by 'reverse controls'.

You could also just copy paste a ghost rather than ghost place.

I thought a bit and I found, that you have these two build-modes: building entities or building ghosts. For the ghosts there is a speciality,that builds blueprints (which are just many ghosts at once).
And what’s common between those modes is, that you want to use a mode for a longer time. And so it would be logical to switch between those modes by one key. Instead of pressing shift to keep ghost mode switched, one key to flip between these modes.

Just a headsup, I've been using switched controls (build ghost is now left mouse, build is shift left mouse button) for the last few days. This issue used to annoy the heck out of me, but it's completely gone away now that I've reversed the controls.
Might be something you want to wait until you're mostly playing in map mode to do.

Yes, and see above: a mode switch, to flip the keys for both commands would solve also that.

That would likely be very very confusing to muscle memory. I've never seen a UX mechanic like that in any other software, and likely for good reason.
