not seen the first, I've had the second quite a few times.
Another one I've had a few times is that the "start area" is in the middle of an ocean Biome, so you have an island as big as the start area, completely surrounded by ocean.

The second one is not a bug. The first one could be. What map generation settings have you used. By any chance haven't you switched off the starting area?

The first one starting area tiny
the second one is a generator fault, or? (starting area tiny)

Could you please pass a savegame from the first instance? Or at least the exact map generation settings that lead to it.

Both doesn't surprise me if you settings in the right way.
1: Aliens High frequency/Very big & starting area "none"
2: Water at max & high frequency about terrain segmentation
(rush translate from french to english, anyway you understand me)

In my opinion, it's just super extreme settings, means that you can really play with, so sounds positive.
For example about the 1st settings Betham did a youtube Let's Play with bitters peacefull (and noticed that they attack random stuff on their way every so often, very interesting behavior)
