So I was playing earlier today and unaware that 1.1 had been released. So I jumped back on as soon as I could to try out the new stuff, but when I loaded up the game, it did not update. Then when I checked for updates manually, it still did not appear. So now I am on the website downloading the game again.
Not sure if this is a bug as I’ve always had experimental turned on.

Correct. It was removed due to causing issues. Here's the bug report for the issue: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=91658

Ok, so I downloaded the 1.1.0 release and my game will not start in the new release. I deleted my 0.17 folder and moved the 1.1.0 into the roaming folder. Then I read that someone had to move theirs into the C: Factorio foler so I did that too.
I can’t seem to get the 1.1.0 version to open.

According to the release notes, version 1.1.0 cannot load saves older than version 0.18.0. You will need to download version 0.18 or 1.0, load your old 0.17 game, and save it again. Then move this fresh file to version 1.1.0.

Thanks everyone, I think I will wait for either the stable release or for auto update to work again.
