Bought the game some time ago back in 2016/2015 and loved it. I've played it off and on, and got back into it with the 1.0 release.

I'm having a bit of an issue though with this particular map I like as a starting map. I can't seem to get it to load up quite right. It'll load up fine with the starting area and such, but different parts of it are chopped up to all heck when it goes into the random generated areas. Is there a way to fix this issue and restart the map entirely with the old information but have it updated? I've got an older save that would work for the restart, but it's been giving me some issues.

I've tried to use the map string load, but it just doesn't want to cooperate.

How old is the map you like to use? I forget exactly when, but they changed the map generation. If you want to use a map from before that change, you won’t get what you want.

You might need to just find some fun figuring out a new map each game.

Why do you say "starting map"? Because it has a decent starting area? A while back, the map generator was changed so as to have certain guarantees for the starting area in all newly generated maps: : always water in starting area, all four basic resources in starting area – except oil and uranium.

Can you be more specific as to what you like about the map?

If you cannot reproduce your favourite map with the new map generator, maybe finding a new good "starting map" will not be that difficult, because of the new guarantees.

Yea, sorry, I didn't define that too well. I'll try be a little more specific. What I do like is the fact it has an awesome starting area, but I also like the resource spread. It's far enough away where it forces the use of trains while not being so far away that it's absurd. I have a later save of the game, I kinda liked to save multiple files, and what I'm tempted to do is boot it into the map editor to fix what resources have been used/drained, top off the further away resources, and go from there as much as possible.

My concern is the older data not meshing too well with the newer data. As pointed out by astroshak, I remember the map generation was changed, so it's not going to give me exactly what I want. Instead, I might be able to recreate it in the map editor to the best of my abilities.

One of the main issues comes from near the radioactive site on the map where it will cleave that in half, add water, and re-do the map generation from scratch, which kinda annoys me. The starting area is a bit of a PITA and doesn't generate properly as well. As said, the only good thing is that I do have backup saves of older map generations, which does save me a bit of headache. *Edit: No clue why I had an issue updating this post.*

Welp, I couldn't get things to work the way I wanted to get them to work, so, I went the hard route.

I've gone in and used the map editor to completely retool things, remove entities, etc..., which took a good hour and a half. The map is where it should be in its original state, however, I did have to use the console command to unresearch technologies that had been researched up until that point. I'm hoping this didn't corrupt the save file and prevent it from earning achievements.
