New to Py - Where to start?

I'm looking to start my first Py run.
Figured I'd go into the Mod portal and find the main Py mod and that would be that.
Oh boy...
Is there a recommended starting setup? As in, which of the 30 odd mods should be included, particularly for a first run?
Thanks!

theres only 7 main mods and there graphics attachments.
easiest is pycoalprocessing + pyfusionenergy + pypetroleumhandling + pyrawores
pyhightech will up the difficulty considerably.
pyalienlife will also increase the difficulty even more.
pycoalprocessing is the core mod but pycoalprocessing + pyfusionenergy + pypetroleumhandling + pyrawores is really the complete pymods starter pack. probably a solid start for a new py player.
pycoalprocessing + pyfusionenergy + pypetroleumhandling + pyrawores + pyhightech + pyalienlife is the true complete pack but is very very hard. can be done but it wont be gentle about it.
pyindustries just adds some extra convince stuff and is all nice to haves but doesnt really impact difficulty. I recommend always having it.
FYI BITERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED AT REGULAR SETTINGS AS THEY'LL MAKE YOUR PYLIFE HELL turn them off or significantly reduce evolution rates as normal mode will be like playing a death world as they quickly out evolve you.

i made 4 mod pack with 4 different difficulties
since you are new try the easy or medium pack
as for QoL mods i think i have a few in the optional dependencies of those mods
easy
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/immortal_sniper1_PY_pack1
medium
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/immortal_sniper1_PY_pack2
but u can add as many other QoL mods as u like

Personal best Pymods experience : only Py mods (all of them)
+
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/EvolutionThroughResearch for the evolution and to keep biters under control (Turn all other evolution to 0 in settings). Although as King said, maybe just turn them off altogether or at least peace mode for a first try.
...and optionally, but not required, RSO for adjusting resources.
A nice play i had also was starting island without mobs, which allows to develop before venturing outside. Here's the map seed if interested : 371132741 (water scale 150%, coverage 300%, starting area 600%). Tweak as needed.
