Option to make 'f' toggle pickup mode

Holding the f key while walking around at the same time to pick up things is quite awkward. Even more so during combat when you want to pick up alien artifacts.
I know it can remapped to some other key, but it wouldn't help much.
Maybe an option to have f toggle between pickup mode and non-pickup mode would be nice. So you press f once, and you auto pickup everything while walking around. Press f again, and it's not picking up again.
What do you think?

What about having ctrl+f as toggle on/off and simple f function as it does at the moment?
Essentially, give us another button to toggle pickup mode

@hoho That is an awesome idea.
Personally I have mapped the pick-up key to ctrl but I recently read from someone else the great idea of putting it on the middle mouse button.
In either case I'd also love a way to configure the pick-up radius. I think we all have suffered through the broing procedure of picking up hundreds and hundreds of alien artifacts…

I bound pickup to my RMB so that as I'm picking up belts, I'm also picking up what was on the belt. It was weird at first because you can accidentally pick up stuff when you're picking up belts from a distance, but I got used to it.

A bit off topic:
I found the Magnet Mod quite useful. Something like that should be in vanilla game.

And binding pickup to mouse button 4 (thumb) makes total sense. Also quite recommended is mining at middle mouse and setting up stack filters instead to Ctrl middle mouse. For example.

Isn't it supposed to be hard to pick up stuff while running around?

Maybe. But I really hate it. There is no sense in running around over 10 cleaned biter nests and pick up the eggs. There is no sense in clearing all single items from ground, when you deconstructed something, before you can construct again. And a lot of more stuff. I really like the magnet mod but still use the f-key, for me it's really a good tool, which should be - a bit better integrated - in vanilla.

I kinda like the current "Figt first, collect booty later (or risk you life too much)".
However, at least collecting artifacts from big nests after battle could be a bit easier.
(Please note I never killed any 7+ nests or played factorio 0.8+, my view could be outdated)
The magnet mod approach sounds good (occupies your cursor/hands while picking up it, right?)
If vehicles get upgrade modules, perhaps there could be one item collector as well (could also pick up run-over trees)

i have the pick up key bound to mouse button 4. holding the f key while walking is indeed annoying.

I rebound pickup to spacebar. It's a lot easier to hold space with your thumb and pickup everything.

And shootings is now bound to 'f', like 'fire', right?

Lol no, Numberpad 1
I use a Razer Naga on the numberpad setting
I don't think F is bound now. I know I changed the info panel on ALT to F2, because every time I Alt-Tab, it turns it off, where as F2 is pretty much never used, except when renaming a file/folder!
