Inserter interaction indicators do not show up if you place a belt after the inserter is already placed, if the inserter is also interacting with a cargo wagon and you mouse over the inserter itself (not the belt).

Correct behavior when placing the belt first:
Incorrect behavior when placing the inserter first.
Replacing the cargo wagon updates the indicator for the belt.

Thanks for the report; the inserter when built shows only the live pickup/drop targets. In that case it has no drop target because it hasn't tried to move any items (because the wagon is empty). Once some item(s) are in the cargo wagon it will update and start to try to move stuff at which point it will have a drop target.

That's not going to be changing.
