But after you glitch it like this, can it be cancelled after moving mouse or after reopening gui or is it stuck like that forever?

For my testing it works again as soon you moved you cursor away from the research you wanted to cancel, so that it is not highlighted anymore. Than you can move your cursor back there and give it another try, but be more careful this time, you can glitch it again!

For me it looks quite similar to an issue I reported yesterday. Any chance they are actually related? viewtopic.php?f=48&t=82782
