Ok, so it’s a swarm of bees; a colony of ants; a gaggle of geese, etc. But what is the proper designation for a “mouthful” of biters?

The collective noun for cockroaches is an "intrusion".
I think it fits well.
An intrusion of biters.

gaggle of geese ? why don't we learn that kind of english at school is beyond me. It's sounds funny only to me ? i was interested about the "etc" and also needed to do some research to propose appropriate classification for this alien wildlife . You can find the sources in the spoiler ( a congress of baboons

), but from my observation and this newly acquired vocabulary, i think i would describe some groups as forming some "flocks of biters" , sometimes "colonies" . Definitly "ambush of biters", and "horde of biters" were considered. Also historical sources mention the existence of "fesnyng of biters" but this can only be found in very old text since no-one know how to prononce that word anymore

I once played a game with Alien Loot Economy up and running.
I deliberately left biter nests up and running, within my pollution cloud, to gather the alien ores left behind by biters.
Watching them gather before the assault, they just gathered up into a giant ball. Since that ball always melted to my defenses, I refer to them either as a “biter ball” or a “biter snowball”.
This was towards the end of 0.16 - another of the mods I was using in that game was never updated for 0.17, let alone 0.18.

In French, I'd call it vague (wave) or raz-de-marée (tidal wave/tsunami).
Or a zerg rush, because obvious reasons.

A rush of Biters or a wave of Biters seems appropriate.

I must admit I am a tad disappointed no one has yet come up with the rather obvious: "target"
