Hello, I'm KAL 9000!
I bought Factorio about a week ago, and it's one of the best games I've ever played!
I thought I'd say hello to everybody in the community, so, hello!

Do you guys have any tips for a new player?

When you're laying down your factory, think of leaving plenty of space for future expansion. Then triple it !

Don't read guides, build and figure out stuff by yourself.

At least until you have launched a rocket or reached your "personal goal".

And don't trust the robot.

Hi KAL 9000 and welcome!

My original style of play back when I first met and fell in love with factorio:
Build stuff!
Oh running out of iron plates (or copper or whatever you get the idea)...
Go add a couple of furnaces smelting more iron plates. Problem fixed. Run back to new stuff.
Hey how come I am still out of iron? oh, the furnaces are out of iron ore...
Go add a couple of miners mining more iron ore. OK really fixed. Run back to new stuff.
Now what? oh the furnaces are out of coal...
Go add a couple of miners mining more coal for the furnaces. Seriously fixed this time. Stop and watch just to make sure.
Hey my whole factory is in trouble, I am out of power...
Go add a couple of boilers and steam engines. Really truly fixed... I hope...
Hey did you know that if you forget the pipe between the first boilers and the next set, the next boilers can't produce any steam? Got it now... right?
Oh my blessed factorio, what now? How can I still be out of power?
<very tiny voice> So the coal doesn't actually get into the boiler without an inserter... of course I knew that...
Inconceivable! I cannot possibly still be out of power!
Ah. right. more miners mining coal... for the boilers...

So my new style of play is more like:
Add more power (just in case).
Add more resources (miners, furnaces, fuel for furnaces and so on).
Build stuff!
