Implement previous demos combat as a game mode

TL;DR
The intense combat of the since removed ramping attacks from the demo was great. Implement as another game mode like rail world.

What ?
As we progressed through the final research the bitters totally destroyed my normally substantial defenses, it was heart pounding and i barely finished before they totally destroyed my base. If you could implement a similar game mode where instead of the intensity ramping on the final research make it ramp on the overall research and completion to the first rocket. basically sum up all the research needed and completion of the first rocket to do the same sort of ramping attacks.
Why ?
This would be an interesting and hard game mode for factorio fans that have "been there done that". Basically a game mode you can easily lose if you are not on top of your game. Since it wouldnt be default and more of a selector it wouldnt impact the normal mode, and you probably already have the code laying around somewhere in version history.

Are game modes like death world and wave defense too easy for you?

Also, if you haven't already, take a look at the "Wave defense" scenario which is also in vanilla factorio.

I haven't really played wave defense yet, but this seems to be a different enough scenario to be worthy of being standalone ?

Probably beat Death World Marathon with one mouse button behind their back to get their There Is No Spoon...

More seriously, "Marathon" is a preset to ramp up the difficulty to do research by making recipes more costly in inputs. This will mean more time, industry and pollution to get all the work done which means many times more evolution... (Evolution is a factor of time, pollution, and biter bases you destroy).

See the Evolution section of the same wiki page above if you want to increase those three factors to "ramp" things with a finer comb when generating a world (and below if you like math).

Yeah, just to give an idea, Red+Green research is 8 times more expensive in Marathon : x4 because of the expensive science, x2 because of the expensive recipes.
